Agriculture

Farming success is critical to Uganda's future. This area - once the breadbasket of Africa - now barely feeds itself. With the goal of moving beyond subsistence farming to crop and tree production as sustainable enterprises, Pilgrim's agricultural and environmental programs promote formation of farmer cooperative groups, tree plantings, adoption of drought-resistant crop varieties, the use of renewable energy production and the introduction of technologies which enhance and preserve the environment. As these initiatives come to fruition, the farmers can halt further environmental degradation while achieving food security and financial independence for generations.
