What We Do

Founded in 2001, with about 5 volunteers, Pilgrim is successfully growing into a major local player in development and relief interventions in Uganda. With a staff of about 100 fulltime workers and more than 100 volunteers, Pilgrim is a significant player in the rehabilitation and development of the sub region - reaching more than 500,000 households in north and eastern Uganda through a broad spectrum of community programs. Through affiliates and partners in South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe, Pilgrim is providing relief to orphans and promoting sustainable socio-economic development in the region.

About our work

Pilgrim strives to share the hope and love that is found in Christ Jesus which generates wholeness, creativity and dignity. Because love is never content with a partial or lukewarm response to need, we believe in a holistic and progressive multiservice approach in our interventions. We believe the best witness of Christ's revolutionary love is to invest ourselves in the lives, dreams, hopes, gifts and talents of the people we serve. Pilgrim aids the needy and war-afflicted communities through relief efforts and with long-term goal of promoting sustainable socio-economic development.

Pilgrim's Relief program brings aid to those in emergency situations in various parts of Sub-Saharan Africa. Food is provided to those suffering the effects of flooding, drought and war. Through partnerships, Pilgrim delivers medical aid to needy children in Uganda, Southern Sudan, Zambia and Zimbabwe. These doses of Vitamin A and de-worming make significant improvements in the overall health of nutritionally-challenged children. The Orphan Care program mobilizes African community leaders to care for those within their community who have been orphaned and widowed by AIDS.

Agriculture

Pilgrim's agricultural and environmental programs promote formation of farmer cooperative groups, tree plantings, adoption of drought-resistant crop varieties, the use of renewable energy production and the introduction of technologies which enhance and preserve the environment. As these initiatives come to fruition, the farmers can halt further environmental degradation while achieving food security and financial independence for generations.

Public Health

Pilgrim's public health programs seek to demonstrate Christ's love through medical care in locales without access to such services. The Beacon Medical Center provides preventative and acute care including trauma and HIV/AIDS counseling for the townspeople in Soroti, Uganda, and for staff and students of Beacon of Hope College. Using the clinic as a home base, the Pilgrim mobile medical team delivers health care and trauma counseling to people in remote villages and IDP camps in the region. In 2008, Pilgrim launched Move On Malaria, an aggressive campaign to eradicate malaria in northern Uganda.
